For ILIAS 3.10 we have made a revision and some improvements of the group system.
Group properties and membership handling has been extended and adopted to the the known workflow and options in the course management. The available types of a group are now:
Public group - it is visible for non-members and might be accessible depending on the chosen option for joining the group
Closed group - it is only visible for members. Non-members do not even see the group in the repository.
For public groups there are several ways to get a membership. Public groups can have
Direct registration
Join with group password
Request for membership or
No Registration possible
The self-registration can be defined for a fixed period. And now there is also the possibility to define a limited number of users and to enable a waiting list (as already known from courses).
