Good morning,

*Currently have the following scenario:
-Working copy from from http://svn.ilias.uni-koeln.de/svn/ilias ... 0_x_branch
-Installation with 2 clients: learning, test
*Future scenario:
-learning: working with ILIAS 3.10.X updating from branch (http://svn.ilias.uni-koeln.de/svn/ilias ... 0_x_branch)
-test: working with ILIAS 4.0.1 updating from trunk (http://svn.ilias.uni-koeln.de/svn/ilias3/trunk/).

->Problem: limitation of disk space for duplicate "Data Directory outside Webspace".

*Help:
-we need to know if updating ILIAS to 4.0.X, changes are made in the "Data Directory outside Webspace".
-can someone with the same casuistry tell their best practices?

Thanks in advance

Hi

I don't know if ILIAS has changed its data-structure in the "Data Directory outside Webspace", i guess not.

BUT: If you share one "Data Directory outside Webspace" over two ILIAS installation you will have problems soon, even this are two installation of the same Version.
- What if a user in ilias 1 deletes a file? In Ilias 2 the file will still be shown in the repository but you will not be able to download it.
- What if you run the "System Check" in one of the installations to remove missing objects...
- ....
You will have inconsistencies between the db and the filesystem very soon. I highly recommend not to do this!

Hi,

question,

if the second installation is just for testing, what keeps you from setting the direcory to an inside folder. As far as I understand the "outside" is a "should", not a "must",
depending on the partitions,
I keep my datadir in /home/, and ILIAS is in /var/www/html/
/var/www/ would also be an "outside".

can you post your "df" ?? this might help a bit.

greetings from belgium, sascha

Hi,

Never mix your database/datadir between different ILIAS installations. It will lead to serious damages.
The space required for data directory and database quite small. How much is the cheapest SATA drive? Or a speeder pendrive (slow but can work for a little test)? It is much more cheaper than recover your database and data dir (without backup) :)

For test you do not need ALL of your data. You can:
- backup data and database
- delete some thing but keep samples from everything
- recover your productive system
- make a different installation and upgrade for 4.x

Or hire a test system from us with the needed capacity :)
