Hi all,

im trying to set up a testing envirnoment under Win XP.
Therefore i got xampp.
I followed the instructions on:

In the setup procedure of Ilias i get stuck when it comes to create a new
client:

Installation Identification
Client ID test
Database connection
database type MySQL
database host localhost
database name ilias3
database user root
database password


after entering the values i get the error:

-DB Error: connect failed! Please check database hostname, username & password.-

According to the manual, the database root pwd is blank.
Also even if the database is not created so far, that can be done in the following step.
But i do not get this far.

So if anyone knows what could cause the error or knows another way to get a testing envirnoment under XP running, that would rock.

according to which manual? MySQL or ILIAS?
It's definitely a problem with the database connection. You need to enter a user and a password of a MySQL user who is able to connect to the database and to create tables inside a mysql database.
What you have to do before you install ILIAS is to create a database called "ilias3" (if it is the same as in your example). Therefore you need to connect with the database either by commandline or using a database tool like PHPMyAdmin or a client based tool.
I would strongly recommend to create another database user than "root" for your MySQL database for security reasons.
MySQL has it's own user administration so you need to create this user before you can use it in the ILIAS setup.

Because you are using XAMPP, you already have PHPMyAdmin to administrate the MySQL user accounts. So open PHPMyAdmin, go to "Rights"/"Rechte" and choose "Add new user"/"Neuen Benutzer hinzufügen". Enter the username, allow access from localhost only and enter the password for your user twice. For the global rights you may choose select all which makes your new user to a database administrator (another option is to select none, create the ilias3 database and then add rights for this user to the specific ilias3 database and select all rights for this database, that depends on your database usage).

That's it and you should help you to go further with your setup process.

Hi again,

thx for the hint.
The problem was that i reseted the root Password with
a batch file that comes with xampp: /mysql/resetroot.bat.
(It changes the phpmyadmin/config.inc.php file)
therefore i could not connect or create a database.

But now i fanally have a Test envirnoment!

I have installed XAMMP on my windows XP computer, My problem is how to install ilias with XAMMP under windows XP? I can only find the linux ilias package, Where can I find the ilias windows package so that I can install it with XAMMP?

Hi,

this is the same package, don't bother. There is nothing windows specific in it.
The only additional software you might need is the command line tools of zip and unzip and ImageMagick, but this is avaialable for windows too.

when I installed ilias, I need install some additional Software
a. Installation of a ZIP program
http://www.info-zip.org .
b. Installation of an UNZIP program
For unzip of files ILIAS 3 needs a unzip program. http://www.info-zip.org.
c. Installation of ImageMagick
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php.
But I can't find the installation packets for ZIP and Unzip. Where can I find it?
I downloaded the imamgemagick, when I tried to build the exe, but failed.
I install the ilias but I can't finish the setting, what should I do?
