Migrating from MySQL 4.0.x to MySQL 4.1.x

Please use these instructions only if you are using ILIAS and MySQL 4.0.x and want to migrate to MySQL 4.1.x.
If you want to migrate an existing ILIAS from MySQL 4.0.x to 4.1.x you need to do the following steps:
  1. Update to ILIAS 3.4.3 stable (run database migration in setup).
  2. Backup your database.
  3. Dump your ILIAS 3 MySQL 4.0.x database, e.g.
    /opt/ilias/bin/mysqldump > ilias3.dump
  4. Update to MySQL 4.1.x.
  5. Create a new ILIAS database, set the default character set to utf-8 and the default collation to your appropriate utf-8 collation (see http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/charset-unicode-sets.html), e.g. if you are located in germany:
    mysql> CREATE DATABASE ilias3 CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci;
  6. Load the MySQL 4.0 dump file into the newly created database, e.g.
    /opt/ilias/bin/mysql --default-character-set=utf8 ilias3 < ilias3.dump
  7. Check if all content has been successfully migrated.
If you run multiple ILIAS versions on the same database server you have to
update them all at the same time.
