Personalised Peer Feedback

1 Requirements

This basically an extension of the Anonymous Peer Feedback feature:

Our first tests with actual users and teachers at our university have shown that the peer feedback feature can also be used very effectively in a non-anonymised version. Especailly in small groups (up to 20) anonymity is not really given, but it might be very rewarding to know which of your classmates you are feedbacking and who gave you your feedback(s).

We suggest extending the peer feedback feature by the following funtionalities:
  • making the anonymity configurable and thus optional (Peer Feedback: radiobutton anonyous | personalised)
  • users whon give feedback should be able to see the name / username of the person to whom they are giving feedback
  • users should see who gave them their feedback

4 Discussion

Alex Killing 10 Apr 2014: I support this idea. It has to be ensured, that the setting cannot be changed once a feedback is given.
Marko Glaubitz, 08.05.2014: Has this feature been scheduled for 4.5 or not?
Alex Killing 23 May 2014: It was on the discussion list, has been postoned and somehow been kicked from the list. I added it again.
JF 21 July 2014: We appreciate the feature and schedule it for 4.5.
Marko Glaubitz, 19.01.2015: There are two things that instructors at our institution have complained / asked about in connection with the peer feedback:

Obligatory PF / Passing Status
As far as I can see, up to now taking part in the peer feedback does not affect the passing status of the course members fpr the execise unit. While this was not crucial for the anonymous mode, I does make a lot of sense to actually have this in the personalized mode. Here instructors hsould be able to see, who has taken part and who hasn't, since the task is part of the assignment. Anyway, users at the University of Freiburg have even asked for the peer feedback to be obligatory in the anonymous mode.
I see two viable options
  • make it configurable whther a peer feedback is mandatory or not with a simple checkbox
  • make it default that those who have not given the required number of feedbacks fail the unit
Minimum length of feedback
Some instrucotrs have reported that some students simply put a dot or a comma in the text field as feedback and have asked for a minimal length of the answer to  be set / be configurable. One solution might be to make a minimal amount of characters configurable either globally or locally per ex. unit to make it less worth while to cheat "cheaply". While in the personalized mode this can be uncovered, in the anonymous mode there is no way of tackling such cheaters.
Jour Fixe 02 Feb 2015: We consider this as a new feature request. Please create a new wiki page and move the comments to this new page.
