The ILIAS Society (ILIAS open source e-Learning e.V.) is the home of ILIAS and the heart of the ILIAS community. The members ensure the sustainability of ILIAS and have a say in its further development. The society is a non-profit association and works to ensure the independence and transparency of the software's development – so that also in the future it remains a modern, flexible and license-fee free learning management system for your e-learning scenarios.

Annual membership fee and contributions
The prices of membership fees for the ILIAS Society are decided upon by the members at the annual general meeting. All contributions and income is used solely for the society's work. The society can supply relevant confirmation of this, as required by German law.

Annual membership fee Private Member:    70 €
Annual membership fee Institutional Member: 4.000 €
Annual membership fee Service Provider: 10.000 €

Reduced fees for schools, small non-profit organisations and one-person businesses are available upon application.

Network and memberships

ILIAS open source e-learning e.V. is committed to the dissemination of open source software and aims to contribute to the further development of international e-learning standards. For this reason, the ILIAS Society is involved in the following organisations:

  • IMS Global Learning Consortium: This is where important e-learning standards such as LTI, QTI and Open Badges 2.0 are created. The ILIAS Society has been involved as a voting member since 2022.
  • Open Source Business Alliance - Bundesverband für digitale Souveränität e.V.: Is committed to sustainably anchoring the central importance of open source software and open standards for a digitally sovereign society in the public consciousness.
  • Open Source LMS: Wants to strengthen and promote the use and further development of open and free educational platforms. Co-initiated by the ILIAS Society, the joint declaration now has well over 100 signatories.
